SUE BROUSE, CPHR
As an HR Consultant, Sue applies her experience, leadership, and versatility, providing services to organizations in the private, public and non-profit sectors in strategic and corporate planning sessions, recruitment, investigations, employee satisfaction and wellbeing programs, and general HR advice and support
Sue began her Human Resources career as a casting director in film (high pace, project-oriented recruitment) over 30 years ago. She went on to cast over 35 feature films from blockbusters to independents, with diverse themes and unique casting challenges. During that time, observing how employment practices impacted engagement and productivity, she decided to study and gain experience to really make a difference. In 2011 she expanded her knowledge and was certified as a professional in Human Resources (CPHR).
Sue next held the position of Director of Member Services and Human Resources at UBCP / ACTRA (the BC branch of the Canadian performers’ union) where her focus was on improving the services to BC based performers and aligning the organizational direction with the Board’s vision. There she implemented the first annual recognition program (UBCP/ACTRA awards) which continues to this day as the premier awards program for BC performing talent. She is proud of the many accomplishments during her 10 years there, including improving recruitment, facilitating work on social justice, representing the Union at the industry-wide committee on Equity and Inclusion, acting as the Union’s charging official including during the “MeToo” reckoning (overhauling the complaint process and conducting procedurally fair investigations), and successfully leading the negotiations for 3 rounds of the staff collective agreement.
Currently Sue serves as the Board Chair of the Whistler Film Festival, applying her skills in guiding the organization through a leadership transition, a rewrite of the Bylaws and the many challenges impacting arts organizations and festivals today.
